Can I use smart watch overseas?
We always get the question: Can I use the smartwatch overseas?. In principle, a smart watches for kids and elderly should be able to operate in any part of the world provided the supported network of the watch is available in the region overseas. For example if its a 2G network supported watch, it should be available in the place of interest and 3G or 4G respectively.
Now the complicated part , the frequencies. You would need to check the frequencies the watches can connect to, make sure these frequencies are available in the country you will be traveling to, and if you’re going to be using a local SIM card with the watch for example, you have to make sure the SIM card provider (the network there) supports the frequencies used by the watch.
For example let’s assume the watch connects to the frequencies we use here in New Zealand which are 900MHz and 1800MHz for Vodafone. For example in Zimbabwe , they use GSM 900Mhz and 1800MHz. If you’re roaming then your phone will connect to one of the networks that works with the Vodafone frequencies.
Please check the frequencies of the local network when buying the SIM card . Either way it can be a bit problematic if the device connects to 900MHz only, and the destination/service provider you go to supports 1800Mhz only such as Indonesia.
You can use the drop down list on the following page for some indicative help about the frequencies used in the different countries. We however recommend to check the overseas service providers websites for more accuracy:
As an added measure for your peace of mind while traveling it can be helpful indeed, yet ensuring it will work everywhere you go, with the different networks and frequencies, and the varying coverage in some locations, can be the challenging part.
In addition, it would also be important to remember to change the se tracker connection server from Asia and Pacific for New Zealand to the respective server in the country of visit.
This can easily be accomplished by sending the following text to the watch sim number depending on which region you have visited:
To do this, send an SMS command to the number of the watch.
Pay attention, the command should be written exactly in this form – without spaces, save all the characters.
Europe and Africa region:
The command will switch the watch to SeTracker Europe.
Asia and the Pacific
The command will switch the watch to SeTracker Asia and the Pacific.
The command will switch the watch to SeTracker North America.
The command will switch the watch to SeTracker South America.
The command will switch the watch to SeTracker Hong Kong.
If you are experiencing se tracker app problems, you need to check the smart watch settings as follows. 1 Preparation Firstly, make sure that the watch has a SIM-card which has credit on its account and that the signal level is displayed on the watch screen. If there is no network coverage, these solutions may...
